In 1989 the Gereformeerde Gemeente of Leerdam inaugurated their new Van den Heuvel organ. At that time the organ had 9 stops divided between one manual and pedal. On request of the organ commission the design of the organ in such a way that later additions as a second manual could me made relative easy. The organ was handcrafted with slider chests and machanical key- and stopaction. A wide variety of different woods were used as African sipo mahogany, French oak, ebony, redwood, etc. Stop list of 1989. Manual, C-g3 Prestant 8' Roerfluit 8' Viola 8' Octaaf 4' Fluit 4' Octaaf 2' Mixtuur III-IV Hobo 8' Pedal, C-d1 Subbas 16' Pedalcoupler Tremulant knob for wind & light In the next years the community of the Gereformeerde Gemeente grow to sizes which couln't be hold in the building anymore. Plans for a new church were made including the place and size of the organ. There were two main options for the organ: relocation to the new church without any changes, relocation with enlarging the organ for the new and larger church. In both cases the organ would be dismantled and with later additions the organ would be again dismantled and transported to the ateliers of the organbuilder. This wouldn't be a very economic way of spending community money. After lengthly negotiations the descision was made to enlarge the organ with a second manual and a total of 7 stops. In 1989 an extra reserved spot was made out side the contract. This extra space provided now room for a new Cornet V stop on a mounted toe board. A new Trompet 8' stop replaces the relative soft Hobo 8'.The console was enlarged with a second manual and it's couplers. New stopknobs of black ebony were made for the new stops in the same style. Works on the organ case included construction of new doors on both sides for accessing the new pipeworks of the second manual and the new pedalstop. In cooperation with architect Van Beijnum and churchconstructor De Ruiter Leeerdam bv the new gallery was made by the organbuilder of mahogany. After polishing, the gallery and organcase recieved a transparend finish. When the installation of the organ in the new church was completed the old and new pipework were (re)voiced in cooperation with the churchs consultant Herman van Vliet. |
